What is Natural Progesterone Cream?

Progesterone is a steroid hormone, often referred to as a sex hormone. It is one of two main reproductive hormone groups, the other being the estrogens, made by the ovaries of menstruating women. It is primarily a hormone of fertility and pregnancy. Natural progesterone cream is a medication that used to replenish the needed progesterone in the body in cases where there is a deficiency in production.

Decades ago when little was known about hormonal imbalance in women, it was a common speculation in the medical field that the cause of the discomforts of menopausal women was the depletion of estrogen hormones in the body. At that time women were prescribed estrogen substitutes for relief. It became apparent though, after many years of practice, that the introduction of synthetic estrogen in the body could lead to heart diseases, cancer and diabetes.

It was also during those years that Dr. Raymond Peat, a biologist from the University of Oregon came out with the thesis that progesterone was the essential hormone that the female body needed to combat the symptoms of menopause. According to Peat, in one of his lectures, estrogen was the wrong hormone as it produced great variety of immunological defects.

One of the attendees to these lectures was Dr. John R. Lee, a family doctor from Northern Carolina. It was from these lectures did John R. Lee conceived of the idea of incorporating the use of it in treating his patients.

John R. Lee, M.D. was an international authority and pioneer in the use of natural progesterone cream and natural hormone balance. According to him, natural progesterone USP has a molecular structure identical to the progesterone produced by the human body. Natural progesterone is produced through the fermentation of the Mexican Wild Yam, which is molecularly identical to the natural progesterone hormones in the body.

Natural Progesterone Cream for Postmenopausal Women

Natural progesterone cream is clearly the best medication for postmenopausal women. Three percent it is a safe and effective supplement. It is easily absorbed through the skin and it can be used to treat a variety of problems including alcoholism, cervical dysplasia or erosion, endometrial carcinoma, endometriosis, fibrocystic breast disease, hypothyroidism, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, PMS, temporomandibular joint syndrome, urinary tract infections, uterine fibroids, vaginitis, depression, migraine, and low libido.

Natural Progesterone Cream for Younger Women

Natural progesterone cream is also an effective means of relieving discomforts of PMS for younger women. Many women who experience PMS discomforts are already progesterone deficient. Diet, stress and xenoestrogens (foreign estrogens), often introduced in the form of contraceptives, are all major contributors to this disorder. In severe cases, doctors prefer to prescribe it as it is safe and does not in any way hamper the menstrual cycle of younger women.

Natural Progesterone Cream for Men

Men over 45 are usually prescribed natural progesterone creams when they are experiencing erectile dysfunctions. One benefit of it is that it increases libido. It is also an effective means of reversing symptoms of osteoporosis. Since progesterone is the precursor of testosterone, and testosterone can stimulate new bone formation, the use of a natural progesterone is therefore one of cures for osteoporosis.

Why is Natural Progesterone Cream Better Than Capsules?

When taken orally, progesterone is digested into the liver, where 80 - 90% of it is purged from the body, which can result in liver damage. In effect, only 10 to 20% of the oral dosage of progesterone is taken into the body when taken in capsule form.

By comparison, transdermally delivered hormones like natural progesterone creams are up to 80% more absorbed than equivalent doses administered orally. In other words, natural progesterone capsules provide only a fraction of biological activity in comparison to the same dosage of it administered from a transdermal delivery system (TDS). An oral dose of 100 mg progesterone capsule is equivalent to only 20 mg of it.

Complications Regarding Progesterone Cream

Progesterone is highly fat-soluble and when applied to the skin will store itself in a woman's fat tissue. On the onset, or the first applications, this is not yet visible because the fat stores are very low. However, as time goes by, the cream accumulates and contributes to disruptions in the adrenal hormones such as DHEA, cortisol, and testosterone. If not used cautiously, weight gain can be a problem.
